Mueller has come up to a red line in the Russian Federation 2016 election-meddling investigation that he is dangerously close to crossing.

Tillis said Mueller should be allowed to complete his investigation and have a "definitive answer" on Russia's influence. "The president has called it a fiction, a total fabrication to excuse the colossal and unexpected, unwanted defeat of Hillary Clinton in last year's election. People just can't get over that election". "It's corrosive to our body politic".

The appointment came after a growing cry - mostly from Democrats - mounted for someone outside the Justice Department to handle the probe.

Mr. Mueller was appointed in May by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Kellyanne Conway squirmed and pivoted on Sunday when confronted with the White House's conflicting statements on the drafting of Donald Trump Jr.'s misleading statement about his meeting past year with a Russian lawyer et al.

The president also warned Mueller to stay within certain boundaries as he investigates.

In the aftermath of his upset election win over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton last November, the former host of "The Apprentice" has faced increased pressure regarding the issue at hand.

CONWAY: Let's talk about - oh okay, let's talk about telling the truth.

And she made a petulant reference to President Barack Obama's statement in 2010 that people would be able to keep seeing their doctor if health care reform passed. "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor". "Go tell the families of those four innocent Americans who were slaughtered in Benghazi that that lie mattered", said Ms Conway. At this point, Stephanopoulos interrupted before she could finish the thought, saying, "Kellyanne, you're simply changing the subject here".

"Bottom line Kellyanne, does the president commit to not firing Robert Mueller?" the host asked.

"The president has not even discussed that". Although Christie said there was typically pressure on special prosecutors to produce results, he wasn't too concerned about Mueller going too far while looking into President Trump's finances, as well as those around him.

CONWAY: George, the president has said the entire investigation is fabricated.

But Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Intel Committee, said Mueller's grand jury is a "significant development". "They spend more time on TV than they do interviewing witnesses", Conway complained.

Now, just because an investigation is indeed very real doesn't mean we know its conclusion. Let's see who you are.

Conway seems stuck in a "Groundhog Day" loop while the world has moved on.
