US and North Korea engaged in diplomacy behind the scenes

Trump's latest warning came on Friday (Saturday NZ Time) shortly after the North Korean state news agency, KCNA, put out a statement blaming him for the escalated tensions.

"Though I don't want the temperature to get any higher, I think it's important also that there is clarity and that if there is an attack on any American soil including Guam, that it will be met with overwhelming response", Calvo told reporters on Friday.

Secretary of Defense James Mattis insists that while the military is prepared, he's still optimistic about a peaceful resolution, and Trump said he was optimistic China would provide further help in resolving the crisis.

Hopefully Kim Jong Un will indeed find another path!

He later retweeted a posting from US Pacific Command that showed B-1B Lancer bomber planes on Guam that "stand ready to fulfil USFK's #FightTonight mission if called upon to do so".

On Friday, Mr Trump issued a fresh threat against North Korea, saying it should expect "big, big trouble" if anything happened to Guam.

The scheduled 5 p.m. meeting was initially with Haley only.

North Korea was reportedly mulling to send Hwasong-12 intermediate-range strategic ballistic rockets "to interdict the enemy forces on major military bases on Guam". I noticed that many senators and others, today came out very much in favour of what I said.

"North Korea must make the right choice now and go for denuclearization", Cho added, suggesting the door for dialogue remains open between the two countries.

Pyongyang, however, said it was working on a plan to launch a medium-range ballistic missile at U.S. forces in Guam, some 3,200km from North Korea.

President Trump suggested Friday that US military forces were standing by to attack should North Korea launch a missile at American territory.

Trump has doubled down on his threats against North Korea since vowing "fire and fury" against the reclusive regime on Tuesday, sparking concern among foreign leaders.

However, continued missile tests from North Korea including two Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles angered the west and Trump's initially warm embrace of China turned cold. The Associated Press reported Friday that talks between North Koreans and a US official continue through a back channel previous used to negotiate the return of Americans held in North Korea.

Pentagon officials were quoted by Fox News as saying that the USA military stands ready to "fight tonight" on the Korean Peninsula.

Pyongyang said the scheme to target the island, a key U.S. military outpost in the western Pacific, was meant to "signal a crucial warning" as "only absolute force" would have an effect on a USA leader "bereft of reason".

Naturally, Mr Trump agreed: "They should have had me in years ago. frankly you could have said that for the last three presidents". "We are with you a thousand percent".

Speaking to Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo, he promised: "You are safe".
