Mercedes launches GT R and GT Roadster sportscars

The AMG GT R, priced at Rs. 2.23 crore went on sale in the country alongside the AMG GT Roadster, the convertible version of the AMG GT S, which has been launched at Rs. 2.19 crore (Both ex-showroom, India). In the last 50 years, Mercedes-AMG consolidated its position as a highly successful sports auto and performance brand with numerous successes from motorsport to developing unique road-going vehicles.

The engine powers the GT R to sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 3.6 seconds before reaching the top speed 317kmph. Transmission is done by the same 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and power is also sent to the rear wheels only.

The flagship sportscar is powered by Mercedes-AMG's 4.0-litre, twin-turbo, V8 engine (codenamed M177) that makes 585hp and 700Nm of peak torque. Active rear-wheel steering, large rear aerofoil and a new rear fascia, and AMG Ride Control sports suspension, traction control, lightweight AMG performance 10-twin-spoke forged lightweight wheels and carbon-fibre roof are some of the other major highlights of the GT R. It hits 470hp of power and 630Nm of torque. The fabric roof of the model takes about 11 seconds to fully deploy or fold and at a speed up to 50kmph. Folger further added, "At Mercedes-Benz India, it has been our constant endeavor to offer our Indian customers some of the most sought-after global products".

The AMG GT R is the road-going version of Mercedes' Nürburgring 24-hour-race-winning GT3 and is the current title holder of the fastest rear-wheel-drive vehicle around the Green Hell.
