The first bit of news is that Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 3 are both receiving Definitive Editions for Windows 10.

The second bit of news caught many fans by surprise and it was the announcement of Age of Empires 4. That's right, it's real.

Relic Entertainment, best known as the developers of the Company of Heroes series, is teaming up with Microsoft to bring fans Age of Empires 4.

RTS fans have a big announcement to be excited about today, as the classic strategy series Age of Empires will finally be returning with a brand new entry. "For all of you who have remained faithful fans of the Age of Empires franchise for the last 20 years, we say thank you - we can not wait to bring you the next chapter of history", wrote Microsoft creative director Adam Isgreen on Xbox Wire.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will also be getting a Closed Beta which begins tomorrow, August 22. The original game came out on October 15th, 1997, nearly exactly 20 years later.

For its Definitive Edition treatment, Age of Empires is being remastered with updated visuals, including high-resolution textures and 4K support. It ends with a Windows 10 logo, which would suggest that, like the upcoming Definitive Edition, Age of Empires IV will be Windows 10 only.

People were expecting disappointment, but Microsoft delivered with this anniversary celebration.
