Astros, Rangers Travel To Dallas Instead Of Houston

Minute Maid Park, where the Astros play, does have a retractable roof, but it is not known if the stadium has been as severely affected as other buildings in the area have. "We join the clubs in focusing on the well-being of their fans, communities, players, employees and families". Then, this weekend's series against the Mets, also scheduled for Houston, could be moved to Citi Field in NY. That makes it increasingly likely Major League Baseball will seek a neutral site outside of Harvey's range at which to play this series, and perhaps the next as well. One wonders if it wouldn't be possible for the Astros to simply move their series against the Rangers to the Rangers' home park in Arlington - both clubs are now in Dallas awaiting word on were to go - and then swap out the Rangers-Astros series scheduled for Arlington in late September to Houston, which will be in better shape by then.

Harvey made landfall near Houston on Friday as a Category 4 hurricane and has been dumping record amounts of rain on the area since, leading to catastrophic flooding. The Astros were set to return home this week for three-game series with Texas and the New York Mets, but they instead flew to Dallas to wait and see what will come of their week.

"Baseball is secondary right now", Astros manager A.J. Hinch told reporters in Anaheim before the team departed.

If everything unfolds that way, the Astros would be looking at a hellacious travel schedule in which they would go from Anaheim to Dallas to St. Petersburg to NY to Seattle to Oakland to Anaheim - and then, hopefully, back to Houston where their next scheduled home game would come September 15 against the Mariners.
