"As an organization whose stated mission is to "entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves", the Orpheum can not show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population", the theater said in a statement.

After canceling "Gone With the Wind, The Orpheum continued their statement by saying an exciting series of movies will be announced in spring next year offering recent blockbusters and a selection of classic films. The Orpheum carefully reviewed all of them", read a statement from the theatre group.

As an organization whose stated mission is to "entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves", the Orpheum can not show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population.

The board at The Orpheum Theatre made a decision to take down the film after they received "numerous comments" that stemmed from a screening on August 11.

If theaters were serious about boycotting films that are "insensitive to a large segment of its local population", a lot of left-wing movies would bite the dust.

The theater's decision to pull the film ends a 34-year tradition at the Orpheum.

"This is something that's been questioned every year, but the social media storm this year really brought it home", he said.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, "Gone With the Wind", which starred Vivien Lee and Clark Gable, was honored with eight Academy Awards.

Based on Margaret Mitchell's book, Gone With The Wind focusses on a Southern plantation during the Civil War and Reconstruction periods.

One follower said, "It's a unsafe time when books and movies are banned".

According to EW, the theatre's Facebook page was deluged with comments about the film, with one commenter calling the film "racist" while another added, "slowly but surely, we will rid this community of all tributes to white supremacy".

Becki Lee Brown went on to comment that it was sad that "some idiots", who had probably never watched the movie, had caused its cancellation.
