A North Carolina man rang the police to tell them that he killed his wife while he was asleep.

"Oh my God", Phelps said.

Phelps, who studied evangelism and mission, and graduated in 2001 from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in Kentucky, said he was on Coricidin cough for issues with sleeping, according to ABC 30. I was covered in blood, on the bed knife, it is also in the blood.

"He qualifies that, yes it does look like I did kill her".

Breaking down in tears, he told the operator that his wife "didn't deserve this" and that he was afraid to see if she was dead.

Matthew and Lauren Phelps were married in November.

"Oh my God", Phelps said.

Phelps said he had taken cold medicine before going to sleep and that he did not know what time it was.

Another photo shows the couple dancing with light sabers during the reception that followed their wedding previous year.

Matthew Phelps, from the USA state of North Carolina, reportedly blamed the alleged killing on a strong dose of cough medicine he'd taken before going to sleep. He told the dispatcher he took too much Coricidin cough medicine Thursday night to help him sleep.

"I can't believe this".

According to ABC Durham station WTVD, the couple had been married since past year. Mrs. Phelps ran a small business in the Raleigh area while Matthew was studying theology to become a pastor.

Officers responded and found Lauren Phelps with stab wounds.

He's being held without bond and is due back in court Tuesday.

'It's just like pot, except it's better and it tastes just like candy and your parents won't know if you get high cause your eyes won't be red, ' one said at the time. A jail spokesman said Phelps is at Wake County jail without bail.
