"The community is profoundly saddened by his loss and our deepest sympathies are with the Glendinning family", the college wrote in a statement.

Glendinning, 20, was struck and killed while walking or skateboarding on Route 128 at about midnight, police said. The college also said the full staff at its counseling center is available.

The man was in possession of a skateboard when he was struck, but police said they don't know whether he was riding the skateboard at the time.

Endicott College identified the victim as Timothy Glendinning of Boxford.

The student, a sophmore whose name has not been made public yet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the driver was a 55-year-old man from Florida driving a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban SUV.

Police say it appears the student was in the left-hand lane when struck.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police.

The crash is under investigation.
