Kid Rock to open Detroit arena amid protest, Senate talk

Rock's publicist informed the outlet Monday that it would not be receiving press and photo credentials to the Tuesday night show because of a September 3 column by editorial page editor Stephen Henderson that declared Rock's presence a "middle finger to Detroiters".

In Kid Rock's newest and most freakish U.S. Senate campaign statement yet, he pulls a Trump by going on an online tirade against the far left, the far right, and nearly all of Detroit, before announcing his love for black people.

Could this be a hint at Kid Rock's true intentions? We don't condone bad behavior.

"This is a man who is exploitative and resentful of the city's population, not a man who is for Detroit and Detroiters", he wrote.

Among Henderson's criticisms, were claims that the native Michigander, who is white, is a singer who "got rich off crass cultural appropriation of black music, who used to wrap his brand in the Confederate flag - a symbol inextricably linked to racism, no matter what its defenders say - and who has repeatedly issued profane denouncements of the very idea of African Americans pushing back against American inequality".

The Rev. Charles Williams last week posted on the National Action Network Michigan chapter's Facebook page: "When you hire Kid Rock, who is known to be dog-whistling and cat-calling to white supremacist organizations and the white supremacist community, alt-right, whatever you want to call them, and you take our tax dollars to do that?"

The rest of the entry, in a series of post-scripts, details Kid Rock's anger toward people who sit down during the National Anthem, before he writes, "P.P.P.P.P.S".

Kid Rock's publicist has said he will give fans exclusive insight on his political views and aspirations following his first song at Tuesday's concert.

For its part, Little Caesars Arena called Rock the "perfect entertainer" to open the taxpayer-subsidized venue, which will serve as the new home of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons.
