This comes hours before the launch of the upcoming Apple iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X.

Qualcomm today published a somewhat self-congratulatory blog post that lauds the company and its Android partners for achieving a series of industry firsts that include wireless charging, dual-camera systems, OLED smartphone screens, edge-to-edge displays, and more.

Qualcomm Technologies has enabled some notable world firsts on Android, and some remain Android exclusives to this day.

Qualcomm's fast charging feature also known as Quick Charge is available on Snapdragon mobile chipset powered smartphones.

Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf.Ethan Miller/Getty ImagesCompetition between legal foes Apple and Qualcomm is heating up. One great example is Gigabit LTE. Meanwhile, we've been inventing foundational technologies for Gigabit LTE for well over a decade.

Nevertheless, through its licensing program, the company aims to make its new technologies available to startups and globally popular companies like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola and so on.

Xiaomi's Mi Mix is rightly credited as the smartphone that ushered in the era of barely-there bezels that has continued with the Galaxy S8 / Note 8 and LG G6 / V30. Qualcomm has also tested under-display fingerprint scanner and depth sensing through structured light on the company's reference design handset. This phone however lost relevance after Google released its answer to Apple's ARKit for iOS 11, ARCore, which enables AR on all Android phones without needing the extra sensors.

It's hard to dispute the general point that Qualcomm is making here, though. The vibrant Android ecosystem is built on Qualcomm inventions and our industry enabling horizontal model. Now I'm not sure I want to go back.
