Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig tells KPCC that the department received calls late Saturday night about a pedestrian walking along the 5 freeway, just north of the 10 interchange. The shooting occurred shortly after. Officers shot the pedestrian, who died at the scene scene, Kravig said. "Gomez said "[the pedestrian] produced a knife and it was used in a manner where the officers felt they were in danger", according to the L.A. Times.

Officials confirmed multiple officers were on scene, but did not disclose how many fired their guns or how many shots were fired.

"If you want to skip the whole area that is closed, you would hop back onto the 5 Freeway at Broadway", said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Saul Gomez.

30 a.m., traffic on the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway was being diverted to the eastbound 10 Freeway, while the transition from the westbound 10 Freeway to the northbound 5 Freeway was closed. Two southbound lanes were also blocked off after the incident, but were reopened around 9 a.m.
