The new service makes Airbnb more like Priceline, which owns OpenTable, the leading USA restaurant reservation website and app. Airbnb declined to disclose its method for making money from the new booking tool.

Airbnb began testing reservation booking through Resy in May with several restaurants in San Francisco. Trips, which debuted in November 2016, recommends local attractions, provides travel guides curated by Airbnb hosts, and advertises paid "experiences" that guests can book, such as cycling and truffle-hunting.

After its launch in 2008, Airbnb became a favorite app for travelers looking for somewhere to stay. Earlier this year, Resy announced a $13 million funding round led by Airbnb. Airbnb declined to disclose its ownership stake in Resy or say if it has plans to buy the company outright. The site has 1.6 million registered users, according to Airbnb.

The company's overall growth has slowed in key markets around the world, however, partly because of aggressive regulation of short-term home rentals in big cities.

"Airbnb teamed up with Resy because we know that finding a great meal is often the most important (and most difficult) part of any trip", emailed a spokesperson for the company.

Airbnb's restaurant reservations are going live through a partnership with Resy, the restaurant reservations platform. Some of the restaurants travelers will be able to book at include some of the most sought after spots in their respective cities, including some from Food & Wine Best New Chef alums like Peter Cho's Han Oak in Portland and Sarah Hymanson and Sara Kramer's Kismet in Los Angeles. Worldwide destinations will be added in the coming months, Airbnb said in its blog post.
