1 dead, 3 rescued from boat off Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is still reeling from Hurricane Maria, which cut power to the entire island after it made landfall Wednesday as a Category 4 storm.

Another plane got halfway to Puerto Rico before returning to Miami because the San Juan airport couldn't handle another plane.

The largest airport there, Luis Muoz Marn International, reopened to some commercial traffic on Friday.

American planned a single round trip from Philadelphia on Saturday and again Sunday, but was not yet selling seats on those flights by Friday afternoon.

Delta cited an "unfavorable" assessment of the San Juan airport and surrounding area, plus the airport's decision to limit operations to 10 flights per day, rising to 20 by Monday. Global flights will not resume until Monday.

American Airlines was the first USA airline to restore service.


The government called the situation "extremely risky".

The dam was built in 1929 by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority and is used for drinking water and irrigation.

Daddy Yankee also joined forces with the food bank Feeding America, which will bring donations to 78 municipalities in Puerto Rico, according to his Facebook page.

JetBlue operated a relief flight with NY state officials, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and emergency personnel who will assist with recovery efforts.

The island escaped major damage from Hurricane Irma earlier this month when the storm stayed further offshore than anticipated.
