Kentucky lands five-star point guard prospect Immanuel Quickley

While Quickley has the size and the build - he's 180 pounds with broad shoulders and long arms - of some of Kentucky's former elite point guards, he's not the same kind of point guard as, say, De'Aaron Fox or John Wall.

Kentucky had always been viewed as the favorite to reel in Quickley.

The Wildcats were widely considered the favorite to land Quickley, who trained and played under coach John Calipari this summer on the U.S. FIBA Under-19 World Cup team.

Quickley, the top-ranked point guard in the 2018 recruiting class, played for Team USA that was coached by John Calipari this summer in the FIBA Under 19 World Championships and had been seen as a definite United Kingdom lean for months.

Quickley's nifty handle and top-tier floor vision are the foundational pieces of his skill set, but what makes him tailor-made for the modern game is a crisp jump shot.

In the last travel season for the Adidas Gauntlet circuit, Quickley averaged 19.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists over 14 games for Team BBC. The Recruiting Services Consensus Index, which incorporates data from several services, lists Quickley as the No. 10 player in the class of 2018.

He had narrowed his choices to Kentucky, Kansas and Miami. Quickley is Kentucky's first commitment in the 2018 class.

None of those recruits are locks for Kentucky. In Quickley, Calipari has grabbed one of the best 1s available a little less than two months out from the early signing period, a promising start for a program that has finished in the top two of the national recruiting rankings, according to the 247Sports Composite, every year since 2012. Quickley also came to Lexington in 2016 for Big Blue Madness.

Five-star point guards Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be freshmen at Kentucky this season, making for a crowded backcourt next season if they both return. He was the first 2018 guard to receive an offer from John Calipari and he accepted the invitation.
