A 32-year-old bodybuilder has died following a celebrity kickboxing bout in Singapore.

The match saw him knocked out after several blows to the head during the match, and Lim won by technical knockout.

Commenting on the death of his opponent, YouTube personality Steven Lim told TODAY that he was "very sad and shocked". "I didn't think it would result in him being taken away in an ambulance, or even death".

A final medical report will be released in about 30 to 60 days, approximately 1 to 2 months from now.

"[We] request that during this hard time we should come together and extend our support to Mr. Subramanian's family, friends and associates and refrain from any speculation".

Hundreds of friends and relatives turned up on Sunday for Pradip's wake.

Pradip had looked shaken after the match and had to be helped out of the ring. It is not known if Pradip, who has a boxing background, had trained.

The report said Subramanian had taken the place of Singapore Idol alum, singer Sylvester Sim, who withdrew from the match due to insurance issues. For instance, AFC pro fighter Brandon Ng runs for 10 to 15km, and does 200 sit-ups and 100 push-ups daily.

Organisers say both fighters underwent a medical check-up and signed a declaration form before the bout.

Insisting there were no safety lapses, he said the event had followed standards and safety protocols set by sanctioning body World Muaythai Council, and Pradip had received immediate medical attention.

Here's how netizens are reacting to Pradip's tragic demise.

And some felt that the organisers should be responsible for what happened. "I did not want to lose face", Lim said.

In a statement to The Straits Times, Amas' president Mervyn Tan said that professional fights do not come under his organisation's purview.

"We are in close contact with the medical staff at the hospital to ascertain the cause of death and request that during this hard time we should come together and extend our support to Mr Subramanian's family, friends and associates and refrain from any speculation", it said.
