Just a few years ago, bezel-less phones seemed like an idea from science fiction. While Samsung completely got rid of the side bezels, Apple made the smartphone forehead and chin obsolete. This update shows that Samsung cares about their consumers as most of the other brands haven't been active enough when it comes to updates. When the technology matures enough for folding smartphone screens to be viable.

If you have been keeping track of tech news, you would know that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone. There have been plenty of concept videos and prototypes displayed over the years by Samsung, but none saw the daylight due to production issues.

The Samsung introduced to the world what it described as the "world's first foldable AMOLED" display at the CES 2009. As per the patent, it sports an "artificial muscle" in the central part, which protects the internal components while the screen is bent. The device, model number SM-G888, is prospected to already be under inspection by the Korean National Radio Research Agency and listed as "radio equipment for LTE mobile communication".

While the NRRA listing of the device doesn't say anything about its release, a recent report quoted Koh Dong-jin, the president of Samsung's mobile business, as saying that the company may launch a foldable smartphone sometime next year.

It seems that Samsung is really making true its word that it will finally be making available one of its most hyped moonshot devices. It doesn't however, provide any insight as to what the foldable smartphone will look like, much less if it will actually come in a final form before 2018 is over.
