Starring in the Gere role of wealthy businessman Edward Lewis will be Steve Kazee, who originated the role of "The Guy" in the Broadway musical "Once" and received a Tony Award for his performance.

"When it does it'll come with an original score from "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" singer Bryan Adams and Adams" longtime songwriting partner Jim Vallance (their previous collaborations include on "Summer of "69" and "Heaven").

With formidable title recognition (the film not only grossed almost $500 million worldwide but re-invigorated a somnolent genre) and clear appeal to Broadway's most enthusiastic demographic, "Pretty Woman: The Musical" will first walk the streets of Chicago for five weeks, from March 13 through April 15, 2018, at the Oriental Theatre.

In a prepared statement, Paula Wagner, one of the show's producers, said: "Jerry Mitchell has expanded the narrative and storytelling of this acclaimed romantic comedy".

"Pretty Woman", the film that made a star of Julia Roberts, is being adapted into a stage musical, with songs co-written by Bryan Adams, and is aiming for productions to begin in Chicago in March and on Broadway next fall.

The story of "Pretty Woman" is often compared to that in "Pygmalion", the George Bernard Shaw play that inspired "My Fair Lady", which is scheduled to be revived on Broadway this spring. And finally we found our "Vivian" and "Edward" in the gorgeous, triple-threat, Samantha Barks, and one of Broadway's most dashing and talented leading men, Tony and Grammy Award victor Steve Kazee. "Self-empowerment is integral to the reason why these two lost souls are able to fall in love, and we now have two fantastic, charismatic actors with incredible chemistry to take audiences on that journey".

Director and choreographer on the production is two-time Tony victor Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), who worked with Marshall for more than a year on the project before the latter's death in July, 2016, expanding on the story's theme of two lost souls finding self-empowerment through love. I want that to infuse what I am doing with Pretty Woman: "The Musical as he is the true heart of this story".
