The Commission had set a deadline of September 29 for fresh submissions in the dispute between the two factions of Tamil Nadu's ruling party.

Taking note of the petition, the EC had last week sent notices to Panneerselvam, Madhusudhanan, V.K. Sasikala and T.T.V. Dhinakaran asking them to file their replies or affidavits by September 29. "So we are 200 percent confident of winning the row".

"All the numbers required to secure the party symbol have been reflected in the number of affidavits we have submitted".

The unified AIADMK delegation included D Jayakumar, RB Udayakumar, CV Shanmugam, Manoj Pandian and Member of Parliament V Maitreyan. "Jayalalithaa" class="local_link" >J Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Peravai - only the first has submitted affidavits of party workers supporting it, sources in Election Commission said.

The affidavits filed were in addition to those filed previously. "The letters of support from whatever number of MPs, MLAs and General Council needed for bagging the symbol have been given", Munusamy said. "Therefore, the hearing will be held on October 6 as scheduled". It had said that the rival factions can not use the party symbol as well as its name for the R K Nagar assembly bypoll.

The poll watchdog had in March issued an interim order freezing the "Two leaves" symbol of the AIADMK.

"They never informed the EC before the merger or sought its permission to convene a general council meeting using the AIADMK letter pad", said Pugazhendhi.

Beating the deadline, rival AIADMK factions on Friday filed documents with the Election Commission buttressing their case in the claim for the party name and the "Two Leaves" symbol. The EC made it clear to Dhinakaran that the hearing in the case would be initiated as per the earlier scheduled date of October 6.
