Marek Hamsik yesterday moved closer to Diego Maradona's record as Napoli continued their flawless Serie A run this season with a 3-0 win over Cagliari.

Skipper Hamsik opened the scoring for Napoli after just four minutes at the Stadio San Paolo with his first goal of the season and 114th for the club, just one short of Maradona's all-time record.

But Napoli doubled their lead five minutes before the interval when Filippo Romagna clumsily barged over Mertens in the penalty area.

Kalidou Koulibaly scored the third goal in the 47th minute to secure the home victory for Napoli.

Lazio host Sassuolo at the Olimpico whilst Roma will play at the San Siro at 6 pm in the most interesting game of the day against AC Milan.

Defending champions Juventus have the opportunity to jump back ahead of Inter and draw level with Napoli when they travel to Atalanta later on Sunday.

"It's been six years that people have been saying we could bother Juventus but in the end they still win, which means that they're still a step above everyone else", the coach said.

Inter Milan are up to second, after Marcelo Brozovic scored twice in a 2-1 victory at Benevento.

Attempting to shake off the label of "worst squad in Europe's five major leagues", Benevento deserved more in its 2-1 defeat against Inter.

Marco D'Alessandro got one back just before the break and missed a chance for an equaliser. It was Benevento's second goal this season - against 18 conceded.

Ciro Immobile scored his ninth goal of the campaign from the spot with Luis Alberto and Marco Parolo both hitting braces either side of a Stefan de Vrij header.

Lucas Castro also had a brace for Chievo Verona, which overcame an early goal from Giovanni "Cholito" Simeone in a 2-1 win over Fiorentina.
