No rest yet for Lukaku, Mourinho says

Lukaku has already banged in 10 goals in nine competitive games for the club and he was in lethal form against CSKA Moscow.

Crystal Palace sacked Frank De Boer earlier this month following a disastrous start to the season and the Eagles are still without a single point in the Premier League despite Roy Hodgson's appointment as manager.

"Without Zlatan, we can not rotate the striker, especially because Marcus Rashford is playing also in other positions", Mourinho told the club's website (

As you can expect, the news has not gone down well amongst the Old Trafford faithful.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and United attacker believes there is "no stopping" Lukaku when he's on song and has been seriously impressed with the striker's intelligent and powerful play. So until the moment we have Zlatan, we can not think about giving rest to our number nine, the same way we give in other positions. "We can not do that".

"Belgium is Roberto's responsibility and it's his decision to play him or not to play him", added Mourinho. He is also shouldering the goalscoring responsibility in a team that could only manage 54 goals in the Premier League last season.

United have scored four goals in four of their last five matches and Mourinho is thrilled to see more players than Lukaku contributing in front of goal, after his side were accused of being overly reliant on Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season.

"I can not, professionally speaking, say do this or do that".

"That is exactly what we are looking to do and I think we've got the squad to do it". I think every step in his career he got it, he grabbed it with both hands.

"It was always his dream to come to this level and since he's arrived, I don't think he thinks another thing other than success".

The Portuguese manager said Lukaku had taken his opportunities well.
