MI targeted by Russian-linked Facebook ads, sources say

Congress and special counsel Robert Mueller are trying to determine whether Trump associates helped the Russians in targeting the ads.

The Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russian influence of the USA elections, government collusion and ongoing Russian "active measures", has invited the Big 3 digital/social media platforms - Facebook, Twitter and Google - to provide public testimony during an open hearing on November 1, the committee chairs said during a press briefing Wednesday afternoon.

Facebook on Monday handed over more than 3,000 of the Russia-linked ads to the House and Senate intelligence committees.

The ads were targeted at the Democratic strongholds of Wisconsin and MI, which flipped for President Donald Trump in the election, these people said, as well as the battleground states of Florida, Georgia and Ohio. He carried both states by narrow margins.

Since Burr and Warner began the investigation in January, the panel has interviewed dozens of intelligence and political officials to assess the extent of Russian interference in last year's election.

"I believe they are recognizing that threat now", Warner said.
