Premier League side Arsenal preparing to sell Theo Walcott in January 2018

Arsenal are prepared to allow Theo Walcott leave in the January transfer window, rather than running the risk of losing him for free at the end of next season.

The England winger has become a bit-part player for the Gunners in recent years, and is not part of any first-team plans.

That has led to claims Arsenal may look to cash in on the 28-year-old, who has been with the club since 2006.

Everton find themselves in a hard position this season, after a poor run of form at the start of their Premier League campaign.

Theo Walcott still has 18 months in his contract at the Emirates but Arsenal are said to be more than happy to part ways with one of the highest earners at the club.

But the Gunners do not want another situation like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who are refusing to sign new deals.

Those players are clearly yet to gel and have yet to bag enough goals between them to earn results, such that Everton are still in desperate need of a striker following Romelu Lukaku's £75m departure to Manchester United this summer.

On Tuesday (3 October), reports suggested Ozil could be reunited with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, as the Portuguese remains a huge admirer of the Germany worldwide, whom he coached at Real Madrid.
