Aguero: I'd love to see Messi join Man City

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has hit out at those who criticised his decision to go overseas on a day off.

The Manchester City striker was injured while spending a day off in the Dutch capital a fortnight ago when a taxi in which he was travelling crashed into a post.

The accident sparked fears Aguero could be out of action for up to two months.

However, the striker concedes it could be hard trying to lure the Barcelona "symbol" from Catalonia, telling TyC Sport: "The money isn't a problem here. I thanked him for what he is doing for the World Cup".

Argentina's national-team doctor was quoted last week saying Aguero was likely to be sidelined for up to six weeks, but the player himself appears to have the initial prognosis in mind.

However, Aguero hit back at his critics for suggesting he should not have been in Amsterdam in his days off from the club.

The Mirror reports the 29-year-old could return as early as Saturday (14 October), when City host Stoke City as they look to clinch a seventh win in eight games in the Premier League.

Manchester City have never hidden their desire to land Lionel Messi and their interest remains firmly intact.

Rumours linking the Barcelona star with City have been common in recent years, and have always come to nothing. But Leo, just like other players like [Cristiano] Ronaldo, are symbols of their clubs and it's hard to leave not just to City but to other clubs that also have the money. "I trained alone without the ball", he said.

"I spoke to Leo and congratulated him".
