This new Kindle comes with a 7-inch display and also is the first waterproof model introduced by Amazon.

In Australia, the new Kindle Oasis is available for pre-order online at JB Hi-Fi and Officeworks for AUD $389 from today. Waterproofing has always been an omission on Kindle e-readers, and will now let people read at the beach or in the bath tub without worrying about damage, Amazon said. The Kindle Oasis is the first in the series with waterproofing, which according to Amazon makes it ideal for trips to the beach, swimming pool and bath tub, and comes with built-in Audible playback via Bluetooth to wireless headphones and speakers as well as fast-charging technology.

The device is IPX8 waterproof certified which means it can be submerged in water up to 2m for up to 60 minutes. The device was the slimmest and lightest e-reader by the brand at the time. Whilst the Kindle is dissimilar to last year's in several ways, the ambient light sensors that automatically adapt, dependent on your surroundings, are still intact, alongside a very similar model and design.

This year's Amazon Kindle Oasis features a more premium aluminium finish. Depending on which hand you use, the inbuilt accelerometer can change the device's orientation. The default storage capacity is 4GB and can be increased to 8GB. It's worth pointing out that Amazon is also selling a 32GB model with free cellular connectivity for $350.

The water-safe fabric covers are priced at Rs 2,999 and will be available in indigo, charcoal and sandstone colour variants. Moreover, with Kindle Unlimited offer Amazon claims to have over 1 million eBooks available at starting price of Rs 149 per month.
