Timothy Adam Walding, 18, of Boynton Beach, is now booked in Palm Beach County Jail on three counts of sexual assault with a weapon, one count of burglary and one count of false imprisonment.

Authorities say Timothy Adam Walding let himself into the victim's bedroom on Friday while she was sleeping, then held a knife to her throat tied her hands to the bed, then raped her, all while he wore a mask. Afterward, he stayed at the woman's home and told her that she knew him, an arrest report said.

Walding eventually untied the woman and allowed her to go outside for a cigarette, the report said.

According to reports, he told her that she really should deadbolt her door because even though he did not want to do it but he had to.

Walding further revealed that he would be joining the military as it would be awkward living nearby.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that the shooting happened shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday in a gated Boynton Beach neighborhood.

The Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy killed himself in the attempted murder-suicide, but the victim survived.

There have been other instances in which teenagers have broken into homes and tried to sexually assault their residents.

John Santiago allegedly broke into the woman's home, woke her up and engaged in sexual contact with her after stealing money from her purse.

The woman was crying and pleaded with the intruder not to kill her, so he assured her that he wasn't going to kill her and then put the knife in a holster on the side of his trousers, the report said.

In another incident, Dallas police arrested an 18-year-old man after he was accused of raping a 67-year-old woman multiple times over the course of 11 hours in September.
