Rebecca Bredow, 40, served five days in Oakland County Jail for going against a judge's order to inoculate her son, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The Michigan mother had taken an opposing stance to the vaccinations as part of a custody battle with her ex-husband Jason Horne, who wanted the child to be vaccinated.

Oakland County Circuit Judge Karen McDonald approved a recommendation from a court referee to split custody of the child 50-50.

A MI mom lost primary custody of her 9-year-old son after she refused to vaccinate him. Her attorney plans to appeal.

She was released from jail on Monday, Oct. 9 after serving five of her seven days.

Bredow and Horne separated before the boy was born in 2008, and since then, Bredow has had physical custody.

"She's devastated", Vitale said of Bredow.

Last month, Bredow told The Washington Post she was opposing the vaccines on religious grounds, stating that it was about her having the choice as a mother to "be able to make medical choices for my child".

For the past year, Bredow has fought her ex-husband in court over the vaccinations, claiming that they go against her religious beliefs.

"If my child was forced to be vaccinated, I couldn't bring myself to do it", she said. If not, you will appear here Wednesday and if you have not, I'll send you to jail.

McDonald issued Bredow with the jail sentence for contempt of court.

Bredow said that she could not bring herself to order the shots, while her attorney Vitale said that the pleadings McDonald referred to were filed in error by a previous attorney and that Bredow had never meant to consent to the vaccinations. "Even if you agree to them, which you did".
