Paul Merson claims Harry Redknapp would have led Arsenal to the title

That would be the tactical nouse of Arsene Wenger in which Merson has claimed that if Wenger has the nouse of Harry Redknapp, they would win the league.

When asked in an interview on BBC about Merson's match fitness, Hooper replied: "He's looking okay on the box (television)".

While the club will find it hard to win the Premier League this year, they would come a lot closer with Mesut Ozil on board.

"People say he (Redknapp) is a wheeler-dealer and it's so disrespectful", said Merson, who played under both Wenger and Redknapp during his career. We won our first game at home and I thought we'd be alright and then went to Crystal Palace.

Social media was quick to respond with laughter and bemusement at Merson's comparison of three-time Premier League and seven-time FA Cup victor Wenger with Harry Redknapp.

"Tactically, he's one of the best I've worked with".

"We were 2-0 down at half-time and it could've been 10-0".

The pair have endured a frosty relationship over the years with Merson constantly bemoaning Arsenal and Arsene Wenger on Sky Sports. I thought "what have I done coming here - this is going to be embarrassing".

"That's when I knew he was a great manager".

These comments have provoked the obvious reaction from Arsenal fans, who have been hysterical in their criticism of their former player, although this is hardly the first time he has come out with an outrageous comment, or more been overly biased against Wenger's side.

He left Highbury for Middlesbrough in 1997 and also had spells with Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Walsall, going on to manage the Saddlers between 2004 and 2006 before taking up a role as a media pundit for Sky Sports. "Paul Merson is a joke". I have spoken to him and he is over the moon.
