Sammy Watkins 'frustrated' with role in Los Angeles Rams' offense

Sammy Watkins expected to be the main course after being traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Watkins has just 14 catches, but the number that should concern Watkins more is 20 - the number of times he has been targeted by Goff and McVay's offense in five games, including just four times on Goff's 47 passes against Seattle.

His involvement the past two weeks has been especially reduced, only seeing six passes come his way. "I'll go through the reads and hopefully he gets more touches".

One guy who got off to a decent start was the recent addition of wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Does he think it's going to change? "I really respect the way Sammy handled our conversation, in terms of taking the accountability to know that it's about snap-in and snap-out (readiness), and really the tape is what tells the story".

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) - Sammy Watkins realizes the size of his next National Football League contract depends partly on his numbers for the Los Angeles Rams this season.

Marrone will see Watkins, who's caught just 14 passes for 211 receiving yards, from the opposite sideline Sunday as his Jaguars look to improve to 4-2.

Watkins' lack of production is partly a product of Goff spreading the ball around, utilizing the entire field.

It's still a work in progress with Watkins admitting he's confused sometimes by the coverages opposing defenses are showing him, but he has the playbook "down".

"They had certain coverage that took me away, and that's part of the game", Watkins said. "I'm happy, I'm healthy, and my goal is just to put everything on film and just continue to stack up wins and win games". For now, it looks like McVay will use Cooper Kupp or Pharoh Cooper in the return game instead, which will easily be an upgrade over Austin since these two youngsters shouldn't have any issues dropping the football as much. Goff wants that to change as well. "Sometimes when you don't get your number targeted, it can be a little bit misleading, and what I appreciate about Sammy is I think he took it the right way". "We've obviously chatted about the game and what not".

"Definitely want to try to get him more involved", Goff said of Watkins, "but by no means are we, or am I, going to change the approach, play in and play out. I think he's a special player".
