Spencer on Xbox One X: "It's Not For Everybody"

GameSpot caught up with Xbox boss Phil Spencer at the Brazil Game Show and asked about the status of Xbox backwards compatibility.

Microsoft mentioned that they will have a collection that will be revealed later, although players should not expect as many backward compatible games of the Xbox 360. "Same with Nintendo. The relationship with Nintendo on this front has been strong". The $279 Xbox One S Minecraft Complete Adventure Bundle has a 500GB hard drive with an Xbox Wireless Controller and a full-game download of Minecraft. "They should talk about what their view is..." These new Xbox One S bundles are great for those who want to get more when they buy the console. Since then, Microsoft has updated Minecraft with the Better Together update, enabling that cross-platform play. "I have a little dashboard I go to and I can see all the games [and] where they are in getting approvals in the pipeline".

"There's some stuff we're going to talk about in that space in terms of how compatibility's going to work on [Xbox One] X specifically that I think people will find pretty interesting", he said.

Sony's reasoning on not allowing cross-play is that the company is only looking out for the safety of its users, and fears what could happen over networks they have no control over.

As you may recall, Microsoft this past summer announced that it would consolidate the many different versions of its hit game Minecraft across (almost) all of the platforms it supports.

While Spencer believes the conversations are not a lost cause, his comments don't exactly instill a lot of hope for the future of cross-pay between Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
