The game industry veteran had worked on many series for the studio including Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and played a pivotal role in helping create the Dragon Age series. Laidlaw's most recent position with the company had been Creative Director on the Dragon Age series and had even let loose the news that a Dragon Age project was in the works last month. While Laidlaw didn't reveal exactly why he departed, citing that "after 14 years and working on Jade Empire, Mass Effect and Dragon age, it's time for me to move on", his departure is interesting given BioWare is now making a new Dragon Age project.

It is not immediately clear if Laidlaw's departure from BioWare was by his own choosing. It'll be exciting to see what Laidlaw does next.

Regarding Dragon Age specifically, Laidlaw said he has "every confidence that the world we've created together is in good hands and I'm excited for the road ahead". His credits include lead story developer and designer for Jade Empire; lead designer and director on the first three Dragon Age games; and creative director for the Dragon Age franchise. For now, he says he wants to spend some time "reconnecting with all the incredible games and worlds [his] peers have created", and he plans to share those experiences on Twitch and Twitter.
