Good news if you had Channing Tatum's long-gestating Gambit movie in your "Hollywood project in limbo most likely to actually happen" office pool: the thing's got a release date at last, and Tatum's card-flinging X-Men dreams are about to come true.

Gambit always was known for being a romantic, so it's only appropriate that his movie is opening on Valentine's Day.

In the Gambit adaptation, Channing Tatum will star in a role he has been vying for for some time.

It was recently reported that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was in talks for Gambit.

Mark your calendars (in mechanical pencil, maybe, rather thank ink) for February 14, 2019 as the date to see Remy Le Beau step up to movie lead. The character of Gambit was created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee and grew to prominence due to the 1992 cartoon series, where his fraught romance with Rogue was a major plot point.

Original director Rupert Wyatt left over budgetary disagreements and his replacement Doug Liman dropped out of the production because he "never found a personal connection" to the film.

Taylor Kitsch previously portrayed the character in the 2009 film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

The film joins fellow X-Men films X-Men: The New Mutants (April 13th, 2018), Deadpool 2 (June 1st, 2018) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2nd, 2018) as films from the franchise with release dates.
