League of Legends Founders Stop Being Managers, Return To "Making Great Games"

In doing so, they've become detached from actual game development.

Who wouldn't love a Riot Games FPS title? It seems likely to be a blend of the two, but your guess is as good as ours in this regard.

While Riot's focused on League of Legends for 11 years, that's given the studio years of experience at making something that's part strategy, part RPG, competitive and co-operative. "As League started having success, however, Riot Games grew from those humble beginnings where we could feed the whole team with a handful of pizzas to now having over 2,500 Rioters across 20 offices around the world. But it also meant the majority of our time was allocated to "managing" the company rather than creating incredible experiences for players".

Riot Games" founders Brandon "Ryze" Beck and Marc "Tryndamere" Merrill revealed in a blog post Thursday they'll be stepping away from the leadership end of Riot to go back to what brought League of Legends to life in the first place: "developing games.

They'll be trading lanes with CFO Dylan Jadeja, CTO Scott Gelb and president Nicolo Laurent, while the trilane might be unusual in the current corporate meta, Beck and Merrill are keen to point out the trio are "longtime Rioters" who have been "integral" in making the company what it is over the last 10 years.

"We're incredibly excited to jump back into the trenches for this next chapter and look forward to sharing what we're up to along the way". In a recent announcement post the founders happily proclaimed they are switching things up: instead of tackling the numbers side of things, the duo will be more intimately involved with League of Legends on the ground level, going back to their roots and focusing on the magic that makes the game tick. "Thanks to all of you for continuing to make our dream jobs possible".

While Riot is best known for League of Legends, it isn't the only game to come from the company.
