Mobile cuts LTE roaming in Canada and Mexico to 5GB

Also, those with capped plans can no longer use their Data Stash while in Canada or Mexico (though any unused data will carry over).

T-Mobile subscribers on ONE Plus, Simple Choice and Legacy plans will be affected by the change of plans.

One of the things that helped T-Mobile to grow so fast was the reintroduction of unlimited data plans.

Starting next month, customers will have a 5GB LTE data roaming cap, which will affect less than 1-percent of its customers who travel to either country, according to the carrier.

T-Mobile had been offering global roaming data to most of its customers for free, in an effort to attract customers from other networks since 2015 under the plan, "Mobile Without Borders". 12, the company will put a 5GB limit on 4G data and speed will be reduced thereafter. After 5GB, you will still have unlimited data at Simple Global speeds (up to 128kbps or 256kbps if you have ONE Plus). After T-Mobile introduced unlimited Netflix streaming earlier this week, this plan comes as a slap to travelers who spend their time watching youtube videos or business owners relying on unlimited LTE data plans.

If you are on a USA high-speed plan with 4GB data or 6GB data per month, you will get only 2GB data when you are in these countries.

Those on the 10GB unlimited data plan and have already exhausted their 2GB in the United States before crossing the border will have a limit of only 5GB in Mexico and Canada combined.

If you are on a legacy plan with a high-speed data maximum (i.e. 4GB, 6GB, 10GB), your data allowance is shared across US, Mexico, and Canada, but you only have up to 5GB high-speed data in Mexico and Canada combined. Customers on that unlimited plan and many of T-Mobile's other plans had access to data in other countries baked in if they needed it. "In order to prevent usage beyond the intent of the product, we implemented a limit on the amount of monthly 4G LTE data", T-Mobile wrote on its support site.
