AIADMK leader VK Sasikala returned to Bengaluru Central Jail on Thursday after the five-day parole granted to meet her ailing husband in a Chennai hospital, jail officials said.

Granted emergency parole from October 7 to 11, she was asked to adhere to several conditions, including a gag order on interacting with the media. Sasikala was supposed to return to jail before 6 pm, which she did, as per the parole rules. It may be recalled that in February this year Sasikala and her kin V.N Sudhakaran and J.Ilavarasi were sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case.

The AIADMK leader was traveling in a vehicle, which had to stop at several locations like the Trade Centre point as the area was teeming with party cadres to greet and wish her well. On all five days of her parole period, she had visited her husband, M Natarajan, who underwent organ transplantations on October 4 and a tracheostomy two days later. She had sought a 15-day parole, but was granted only five days with tough conditions, including that she would not involve in political or any other public activity or take part in party activities.

Shashikala further halted her vehicle at a Ganesha temple and she would offer prayers from her vehicle as Jayalalithaa used to do.

Sasikala was also asked to stay only at the residence mentioned in her parole plea and was directed not to entertain any visitors either at her residence or at the hospital.

Her supporters showed huge support for their leader as they chanted "Thiyaga Thalaivi Chinnamma", (Younger Amma, a leader of sacrifices), and was throwing flower on her vehicle while she was heading to perform arti at Ganesh temple.

On October 8, Tamil Nadu minister Sellur K Raju said Sasikala had played a key role in ensuring continuance of the present AIADMK government. Sasikala has been ousted from the post of AIADMK general secretary soon after the merger of Edappadi K.Palaniswamy and O.Panneerselvam factions.

Prison sources said that T T V Dhinakaran, Sasikala's political aide and relative, and her advocate Ashokan accompanied her till the prison gate.
