Suspect makes court appearance in North Battleford, Sask following Edmonton carjacking

Maidstone RCMP said one man was arrested Thursday morning in the Maidstone, Saskatchewan area, and was in custody that afternoon.

Edmonton police began following the black Ford Fusion, and notified Strathcona County RCMP that the vehicle appeared to be fleeing to Sherwood Park at about 12:30 a.m.

It all started at around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday in Edmonton when a woman's black Ford Fusion was stolen in the area of 118 Avenue and 104 Street.

The suspects are believed to be armed and unsafe and should not be approached.

Police have issued news releases Thursday advising people not to approach suspicious persons or vehicles and to report any suspicious activity, vehicles or persons in the Maidstone area to police immediately. Saskatchewan RCMP said individuals involved in the incident may be armed and are considered unsafe, according to a Thursday morning news release.

A 29-year-old man arrested after an incident in Edmonton sparked a manhunt in Saskatchewan is facing seven charges, RCMP say.

The shooting victim was transported to the Royal Alexandria hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Officers in Strathcona County were notified by police in Edmonton around 12:30 a.m., to watch out for the vehicle taken in the carjacking and reportedly used in the robbery.


About five minutes later, another armed carjacking occurred at the Flying J gas station.

A short while later a black Ford Fusion was found engulfed in flames on Highway 16 at Range Road 195.

He is now charged with two counts of possessing a weapon for a unsafe goal and one count each of robbery with a weapon, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possessing property obtained by crime and fleeing police, according to RCMP.

The Chrysler 300 was later seen traveling at a high rate of speed through the Vegreville area before being located in Saskatchewan.

"Police are now searching for a second individual described as an adult male, around 5'9" tall who is believed to be travelling on foot.

"We are remaining vigilant and are asking the public to do the same".
