Limbaugh, however, is unerved by Trump's latest round of bluster directed at the NFL.

A national poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University found that 56 percent of the respondents disapproved of Trump's job performance, compared to 38 percent who approved. However, 81% of Republicans approve of Trump, while only 12% disapprove.

Voters are more evenly split on Trump's handling of the economy: 48% of voters approve, while 46% of voters disapprove.

While 58 percent of those polled by Quinnipiac University said the president's remarks are inappropriate, 34 percent said they think his comments were proper.

Seventy-three percent of voters said their personal financial situation was "excellent" or "good".

However, 72% of voters are either "somewhat dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied", with the country's direction overall. "They remain troubled by the president's competence, but see the economy booming along under his stewardship".

However, the National Football League said Wednesday that the letter did not explicitly say it would move forward on demanding players stand during the anthem and not kneel in protest, which many say they have been doing about conditions African-Americans face - particularly when it comes to police brutality.

According to the poll, 55 percent of voters now say Trump is not fit to serve as president, compared to 56 percent two weeks ago.

NFL ratings have been dropping throughout the season, and commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a memo Tuesday, "The current dispute over the national anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country". Twenty-six percent said theirs was "not so good" or "poor". Only 38% approve of how he is handling U.S. foreign policy, and 39% approve of how he's handled immigration.
