The Hammers next face a trip to the Turf Moor Stadium in an English Premiership clash against Sean Dyche's high-flying Burnley who will be aiming to maintain their impressive form.

But given Carroll's aerial prowess, some pundits have called for his inclusion in Gareth Southgate's squad for Russian Federation.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool man has nine England caps to his name and knows staying fit is imperative if he is to add to that tally this season and force himself into the squad for Russian Federation 2018.

Obiang says the Hammers' squad not on worldwide duty were put through their paces over the two-week domestic break as Slaven Bilic's side aim to record back-to-back wins following the victory over Swansea last month.

"All I have got to do is work hard and hopefully get the call but, at the minute, I am focused on getting fully fit here, scoring goals, and getting good results".

"I just hope to return to West Ham as a more experienced player, ready to play in the Premier League or any league".

Carroll missed the start of the season but is hitting his stride now and thinks there is more to come. I've done pre-season with Gladbach, I feel good and ready, I'm just waiting for my opportunity.

"I am feeling a lot sharper than I did at the beginning of the season, getting back fit".

The Hammers have a number of strikers at the club right now, with Javier Hernandez, Diafra Sakho and Carroll himself, but West Ham may also want to bring in a young striker to develop over the coming years.

"You know exactly what he is about and it is great to have him in the squad".

"The Hammers are undoubtedly in for a tough afternoon, but I'll take a point ahead of the important games with Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace".

"It's a motivation and it's the same for Andy Carroll".

West Ham United are reportedly keen on Hartlepool forward Connor Simpson.
