Eby and Culler stressed that no threat was ever made or received by any school in the district. This week, students began to speculate that a threat could be made again. These rumors were amplified by a Snapchat post which speculated about a threat against other schools, creating greater fear on Thursday night. "We can't find a source of any credible threat, but I put a few extra guys on just to err on the side of caution and put people at ease".

The school and the police department are taking "appropriate action", police said.

"The rumors were fueled entirely by speculation from students and parents", Culler said. The student who allegedly posted the threat is in police custody on one count of making threats that caused the disruption of school.

Additional deputies are also on hand at the school on Friday.

When rumors of violence against the school arise, we encourage our students and parents to contact the school and local law enforcement directly and immediately.

"Every student we have talked to has said, "Oh well I don't have it" or 'A friend of mine told me they saw it, '" he said. "There is no current threat to the school community but to reassure students, staff, and families additional police officers are on duty to support Lowell High School today".
