Glee star Mark Salling cut both of his wrists in a supposed suicide attempt before agreeing to a plea deal over child pornography possession, according to a report.

It's said the incident took place a month and a half ago on August 22.

TMZ reports that Salling cut both of his wrists in his Los Angeles home on August 22.

He, however, reportedly "freaked out" and "screamed" for his roommate who then called 911.

Salling was rushed to hospital and given a psychiatric evaluation.

Reportedly his scars are still visible which is why the Dallas native has been wearing long sleeved t-shirts as of late.

While the prosecution has recommended a sentence of 4-7 years, the judge has not sentenced Salling yet.

In a message to the website, Salling's lawyer said: 'Mark is physically fine and Mark is spending his time atoning and working on himself'.

The former Glee star was arrested in December 2015 after investigators alleged a USB flash drive, laptop and hard drive seized from his residence contained thousands of images and videos depicting child pornography. Salling was originally facing a maximum sentence of twenty years behind bars.

Salling, who played Noah "Puck" Puckerman on hit TV series Glee, initially pleaded not guilty to charges that he sought out and acquired sexually inappropriate still images and videos of young children, but eventually struck a plea deal with prosecutors.

Once released from prison, Salling will be a registered sex offender and will be banned from living within view of any school yards, parks, public swimming pools, playgrounds, arcades, or anywhere else regularly visited by those under the age of 18.

He has also been ordered to pay about US$50,000 (RM211,585) to each victim.
