Carmelo Anthony says playing for Knicks wasn't fun anymore

Anthony's public back-and-forth with former Knicks president Phil Jackson became a distraction last season and into the offseason before Anthony chose to waive his no-trade clause to come to Oklahoma City in a trade that sent Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott to NY.

The former Knick plans to use this game to "close that chapter" of his life and start another next to new teammates Russell Westbrook and Paul George, who will suit up next to him en route to this new season.

That's partly because he landed on a borderline title contender with the Thunder, which coincidentally hosts the Knicks in the season opener Thursday. Badly. (Whether that was good for Houston is a different discussion.) His time in NY was over by mutual consent, but now was time to move on, however, thanks to a no-trade clause Phil Jackson gave him, Anthony had leverage.

The ESPN.com report noted Jackson discussed trading Anthony a number of times and suggested he wanted the 10-time All-Star to waive his no-trade clause.

Anthony spent seven seasons with NY, including the unforgettable 2012-13 campaign during which it won 54 games.

"This whole summer I always said that to myself", Anthony said. "I don't think that chapter has been closed yet". Enjoying his second stint with the Knicks is Tim Hardaway Jr. who signed as a restricted free agent for $71 million over four years, but the bottom line is that the Knicks organisation look to finally be handing the keys to Kristaps Porzingis who could be in for a breakout season. "But however he feels, you have to get that from him", Hornacek said.

The question is: How can you watch the season opener and what should you expect to see from the New York Knicks? "We're going to try to improve". Maybe for the player who has fallen just short and a team who has done the same, maybe both being together can help each other out. It's going to be a challenge for me. "I think everybody knows what he's doing, but nobody can still stop him. I'm going to try to do my best".
