Chelsea Handler Is Quitting Her Own Show

Handler often used Chelsea to talk about important social and political issues - most recently talking to activist DeRay McKesson and NFL star Reggie Bush regarding the NFL players and their decision to kneel during he national anthem.

Handler announced the news on Twitter along with a lengthy statement justifying her reasoning for walking away from the show. Some of Handler's reasons included her desire to educate more people on how to become engaged citizens.

Handler's series was Netflix's first foray into talk shows.

"My goal is to be better informed, raise my voice, and participate in a more meaningful way", Handler continued.

Handler said she's planning to travel the country and visit areas and people she doesn't know about to get a better understanding of the US political divide. She also "joined forces" with Emily's List, an abortion rights women's political action committee, in hopes of electing more women into public office.

While it's hard to know how popular Chelsea is as Netflix doesn't disclose its ratings, the show received mixed reviews. They are working on a documentary in which Handler engages with people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, and diverse political leanings. In its second season, the show switched from posting three new episodes every week to weekly hour-long episodes. Handler has been outspoken about her disdain for President Donald Trump and cried on her talk show after the election.

In her first week, The Purge franchise actor Frank Grillo made the wrong kind of waves by comparing anti-Italian discrimination in Hollywood to anti-black discrimination during a dinner party segment, at one point putting the word "black" in air quotes.

Chelsea Handler is excited about her continued partnership with Netflix.

Wednesday Chelsea Handler announced that "Chelsea" is kaput. Coming from cable television considered an up-and-coming personality, Handler descended into a desperate and pathetic Trump critic - alienating many of her followers and removing any comedic value from her material.
