"I don't eat anything if it doesn't grow or if it doesn't walk", she told us while discussing her affinity for natural, unprocessed foods.

The moving post shows a stark contrast between Demi's physical appearance over her five-year journey to getting sober, and coincided with the premiere of her new documentary, Simply Complicated, which premiered on YouTube on Tuesday.

Demi Lovato didn't initially practice what she preached after she finished treatment for substance abuse and began promoting her sobriety.

From Lovato unfollowing the 25-year-old "Fetish" singer on Twitter in 2014, to her admitting on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that she'd grown apart from Gomez, it would appear the Skyscraper singer had closed the book on the pair's friendship for good.

"We were in NY and she clearly was on something, and she was on air promoting this new way of life, and I was like, 'You're so full of it, '" her manager Phil McIntyre says on the documentary.

Toward the end we see a conversation about her eating disorder, which, according to Lovato, is an ongoing struggle.

And after seeing a fan-made image praising her healthy body transformation, Demi chose to share the picture and promise fans that "recovery is possible".

While talking in an interview, Lovato noted, "I think what was hard about the process was being honest about where I am in my life today".

However, taking to social media after the show was released, the star was eager to show that "recovery is possible" with an image of her before and after.

A fan created a before and after montage that Demi then shared.

The star has also suffered from depression, bipolar disorder and self-harm.

Despite showing how far she has come, Demi was very frank about how hard she's found it to get better.

The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer dated Wilmer Valderrama on-and-off for six years. "The gym really helps and I know that I would be in a very dark place without it". Sometimes I'm not ideal with my recovery and my eating issues, but I keep fighting.

We're sure there are a lot of people out there who have benefited from her bravery. Body image, what I'm going to eat next, what I wish I could be eating, what I wish I didn't eat.
