As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, Freeman has been cast as Colin Powell in Powell, an upcoming biopic from Ashok Amritraj's Hyde Park Entertainment.

The film, Powell, is being directed by Reginald Hudlin, who just directed a biopic on the life of Thurgood Marshall, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Powell has since described the event as a "low point in his career", THR notes. Freeman is also executive producing, along with Revelation's Kelly Mendelsohn.

The script was written by Ed Whitworth and will follow Powell during his time as former U.S. President George W. Bush's presidency.

The movie will reportedly focus on the lead up to former Army general Powell's United Nations Security Council presentation in 2003, during which he argued in favour of military action against dictator Saddam Hussein.

Hyde Park is in postproduction on Prey, a thriller which is a co-production with Blumhouse, and is developing an adaptation of Chekhov's The Seagull, which will star Saoirse Ronan and Annette Bening.

Hudlin's biopic Marshall, starring Chadwick Boseman as the first African-American Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, is now hitting cinemas around the world.

Amritraj and Freeman's producing partner at Revelations Entertainment Lori McCreary are attached to produce.
