During Qualcomm's annual 5G Summit in Hong Kong this week, it was confirmed that the company's timeline for announcing devices by the end of 2017 is still on track.

"Achieving the world's first announced 5G data connection with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem chipset on 28GHz mmWave spectrum is truly a testament to Qualcomm Technologies' leadership in 5G and extensive expertise in mobile connectivity", said Cristiano Amon, executive vice president of company subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies, which carried out the tests. Microsoft announced as much way back at the end of a year ago, and talked a little more about these laptops this week at Qualcomm's annual 5G Summit in Hong Kong. We've been working furiously in Redmond and with our partners in San Diego on this thing.

He added that the company set a high bar for its developers and it's now beyond that. It's the kind of battery life where I use it on a daily basis. I may charge it every couple of days or so. In the meantime, it continues to test various models-hundreds of them are being used in Redmond on a daily basis, according to Bernard. It turned out not to be a bug; it just has a great battery life. Forget about hours of battery life, if Bernard's claims are true Windows 10 ARM laptops will be shipping in December with two-day battery life as a feature.

Bernard added: "I would consider it a game-changer in terms of the way people have experienced PCs in the past".

HP, Asus and Lenovo will be launch partners, but the plan is to launch the Qualcomm Snapdragon-based Windows machines to a variety of OEMs at differing price points.

Regarding the chips being made available for the Windows 10 Snapdragon program, McGuire said: "We are starting with [the Snapdragon] 835, and I think what you'll see from us as we roll out our next-generation platforms, we'll be rolling those out strategically...with mobile PC in mind". We have seen in recent times that the concept of mobile PCs has been received positively by the consumers particularly after Samsung's DeX dock and HTC's Mate 10 ability to operate like a computer directly through a USB Type-C cable.
