Redknapp makes a huge claim about Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino

"Does it justify my decision?"

France captain Hugo Lloris joined Spurs from Lyon in 2012.

Whilst a draw was nearly certainly the correct result, Tottenham didn't look second best to Real Madrid and gave the Champions League double winners several frights throughout the match... including taking the lead.

It is a far cry from their string of disappointing seasons in the Europa League and even last year's displays in the Champions League, when Spurs failed to make it out of a group that included Monaco, CSKA Moscow and Bayer Leverkusen.

"We believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world", Pochettino said back in August and as a centre-back during his playing days, you'd back the Argentine to identify defensive talent and successfully tap into the potential on offer.

As if shattering their transfer record was not enough, Tottenham had such faith in the move that they ensured they were tied to the player well into the next decade, and it ensures not only that Spurs hold all the cards but that there is no risk of the player moving on just when he is reaching his peak.

In the Premier League this season he's kept five clean sheets in eight matches which puts him second behind Manchester United counterpart David De Gea in the race for this season's Golden Glove. Sometimes in football, you live great moments, and you live some sad moments. Not just since when they used to play Asteras Tripolis and Qarabag, either, but even from a year ago, when they looked naïve and out of place when they ventured into the Champions League. A host of Spurs men came away with huge credit from the stalemate, notably Hugo Lloris, Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko, but the draw marked another strong showing for Davinson Sanchez. He made a number of excellent saves in the second half, including one with his legs to deny Karim Benzema's header, when the striker looked certain to score from four yards. He was so close to the goal.

"I think Hugo was fantastic. So it's good. But as I said, more hard is to confirm in football".
