A Met Office spokesperson predicted that some areas could lose power and traffic will be delayed.

It's in place from Friday (20) at 6 pm until 23:59 pm on Saturday (21) and adverse conditions, including strong gale force winds, are expected. Some coastal routes and communities are likely to be affected by large waves, with potential for flooding of properties.

The Met Office is warning of possible transport disruption across the area with delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

"An intense low pressure system is expected to bring a swathe of strong southwesterly winds over southern areas early on Saturday, these steadily transferring east through the morning and early afternoon, becoming westerly and eventually northwesterly later whilst also slowly easing", the Met Office said.

Their forecast for today states: "Heavy rain will clear Eastern parts overnight and it will become dry and clear but as the winds gradually die off mist and fog patches will develop with the fog thickening around dawn".
