The result came on the back of consecutive defeats for the Premier League champions and the pressure on boss Conte is likely to ease somewhat, with the Blues registering only their second win in five league games. "Our team came here and controlled most of the match".

The injury meant Moses sat out Chelsea's 3-3 draw against AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

Antonio Conte opted for two changes after the hour mark as Michy Batshuayi and Willian replaced Alvaro Morata and Marcos Alonso.

The situation is far from ideal for Chelsea, who have lost two and drawn one of their last three matches in all competitions, and Conte may have to experiment with his team against Watford, with defender Andreas Christensen a candidate to be moved into midfield.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra cancelled out Pedro's opener to give Watford a 2-1 lead going into the final 20 minutes at Stamford Bridge. This double will go some way to quell the criticism he has been receiving lately.

Tom Cleverley, who scored the victor last week against the Gunners should start in a central role in behind the striker, while captain Troy Deeney is expected to come into this starting XI in place of Andre Gray.

Chelsea are still just about battling on four fronts but the clear weaknesses and holes in the squad remain following an insufficient summer transfer market. He is fighting against history with Chelsea having had 14 managers in 16 seasons under Roman Abramovich.

However, Chelsea have lost their last two Premier League games to leave them nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City so Antonio Conte knows this is a must-win game or they could be out of the title race before well Christmas.
