Haryana Minister Anil Vij calls Taj Mahal a lovely cemetery

Amid the controversy over BJP leader Sangeet Som's remarks on the Taj Mahal, Haryana Minister Anil Vij today described the monument as a "beautiful graveyard".

Vij who is a Cabinet Minister with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Haryana government is known for his controversial tweets and statements. Officials also did not endorse any political dimension to the tweet, which secured over 3,300 retweets and around 7,300 likes. Both were buried there. "It was a conscious but good-natured salute to the greatest monument and tourist attraction of India".

Vij, while talking to a section of media said that it is true that the monument is lovely and has graves inside.

Adityanath, whose BJP government in Uttar Pradesh has been accused of ignoring Taj Mahal in the tourism booklet of the state, said that the monument was constructed "by the blood and sweat of Indian labourers". Taj Mahal is a attractive cemetery, said he. Som went onto say that Taj Mahal was a blot on Indian culture.

A day before, the Kerala Tourism Department took to Twitter thanking the iconic Taj Mahal for "inspiring millions to discover India".
