'Hocus Pocus' Remake Slammed By Bette Midler: 'It's Going to Be Cheap!'

"It's going to be cheap!" she exclaimed to People at her annual Hulaween Gala, which she hosts through her New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing New Yorkers attractive outdoor space.

On Monday night, Bette Midler spoke during the Restoration Project's Hulaween party, which she also hosts.

The legendary actress, who stole the show in the 1993 original as witch Winifred Sanderson, isn't too keen on seeing the story revamped for a new generation without her. It's going to be cheap!

"I'm not sure what they're going to do with my character", she said. "My character is very, very broad and I don't know who they're going to find to play that". However, it seems that Disney has chose to go another way with the franchise and remake the film into a made for TV version of the movie. The Sanderson sisters return to Salem, and Max, Allison, Thackery and Dani (Thora Birch) make it their mission to stop the witches from sucking the lives out of innocent children.

As we reported some time ago, the Hocus Pocus sequel with Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker is deader than dead - and now, a Hocus Pocus remake is on its way.

The new movie - being written by Scarlett Lacey - is still in development, with original producer David Kirschner signed on.

In honor of Halloween and the recently announced television remake, The Hollywood Reporter takes a look back what spooky activities the cast members have been up to since the film hit theaters.
