The official match records for the third and final One Day International between India and New Zealand in Kanpur will show that Rohit Sharma was declared the player of the match for his majestic 147 that gave the men in blue their seventh consecutive bilateral ODI series win. Here it was a different situation and a different innings I played.

"When I started off I started off very cautiously because I understand the threat of (Tim) Southee and (Trent) Bolt with the new ball", said Rohit when asked to describe his innings on the day. You get value for your shots. "It was just about timing the ball really well". "Because of Bhuvneshwar and Bumrah, the game could be pulled towards us", Sharma defended his bowlers.

In the team rankings, If India succeed in defeating New Zealand in the upcoming series, Pakistan will top the standings.

The visitors went down 1-2 in the ODI series, but ran the strong India side closer than most touring teams in the recent past and will want to turn things around given their current status of number one T20 team, and a flawless record against India, winning five of five games played. In a chase of 338 on a flat pitch that was getting easier to bat on under the lights and with the dew settling, it was always likely that New Zealand will take the match down to the wire. Apart from Bumrah who came good in the death overs and single-handedly saved the game by giving just 24 runs in his 18 balls, there was no other bowler in the Indian armoury who could have been trusted under testing conditions.

Adjudged the Man-of-the-Match, Rohit said, "Firstly there are no easy wins". We both think for the team so it's always great batting with him because you don't have to say much.

"We have been lucky enough for the last couple of years to be successful".

Rohit went on to hail the team's fightback even in the toughest of circumstances.

Munro put together a crucial 109-run partnership for the second wicket with skipper Kane Williamson, who made 64, as the pair took the attack to the opposition bowlers. He once again proved that he is No.1 when it comes to bowling in death overs. It's a good thing for the team going forward.

Despite taking a pounding on Sunday, Bhuvneshwar has been India's most successful bowler in recent times alongside Jasprit Bumrah. "(In) the last series, especially against Australia, you know we were put under pressure many a times but these guys came back really well and that is the hallmark of this team".

"Even in this match there was so much dew, the ball was wet and to be able to defend on that kind of wicket, with two set batsmen, is indeed very creditable".
